Registrar Roles
The Bruin Learn roles of Student, Teacher, and TA are not to be assigned manually. If they are not provisioned through the automated systems intended to do so, it indicates there is an issue that must be addressed through HR, the Registrar, or the department scheduler, and manually assigning the roles will not remedy the problem. Analog roles have been developed to allow a means of providing access to individuals needing it but not covered by these automated processes.
Additionally, roles must be assigned that grant no more than the required permissions to protect student privacy, the intellectual property of all site members, and provide a restricted environment that adheres to fair use of copyrighted works.
To ensure the proper roles are assigned, Teachers may designate Observers in their courses as appropriate. Some examples are:
- Students finishing an incomplete
- Students auditing a course
- Senior Scholars
- Students needing access while waiting for a PTE
- Guest lecturers needing to familiarize themselves with the course
Teachers can use the form below to request additional permissions for appropriate individuals:
- Editor – Can add, remove, and change the content of a site, but cannot access student data.
- Grader/Reader – Can view and update student data in order to make changes to the course gradebook.
These roles can be combined for individuals requiring both sets of permissions. These roles do not appear to the students as “Teacher” or “TA” so as not to cause confusion with regard to the true administrators of the course.
