Registrar Roles
The Bruin Learn roles of Student, Teacher, TA, and Grader (a.k.a. Reader) are not to be assigned manually. If they are not provisioned through the automated systems intended to do so, it indicates there is an issue that must be addressed through HR, the Registrar, or the department scheduler, and manually assigning the roles will not remedy the problem. Analog roles have been developed to allow a means of providing access to individuals needing it but not covered by these automated processes.
Additionally, roles must be assigned that grant no more than the required permissions to protect student privacy, the intellectual property of all site members, and provide a restricted environment that adheres to fair use of copyrighted works.
To ensure the proper roles are assigned, Teachers may designate Observers in their courses as appropriate. Some examples are:
- Students finishing an incomplete
- Students auditing a course
- Senior Scholars
- Students needing access while waiting for a PTE
- Guest lecturers needing to familiarize themselves with the course
Teachers can use the form below to request additional permissions for appropriate individuals:
- Participant – A Student analog, Participants can complete graded activities, though their grades will not be entered in the MyUCLA Gradebook.
- Editor – Can add, remove, and change the content of a site, but cannot access student data.
- Learning Assistant – Participants in the LA program are expected to be added to the Registrar roles in the future, but for now the role is assigned by notifying local Bruin Learn support.
