Building and Facilities Repairs

Building and Room Access
Most building entrances are unlocked 7am-7pm M-F. To gain access to a building after hours you’ll need a key or card-access. Terasaki has a key-card system provided by an outside vendor. PGC, Botany and La Kretz Garden Pavilon make use of the the Bruincard reader system. Other buildings entrances require keys. Each access type is handled uniquely.
Keys
Keys are needed for some building entrances and most rooms. Keys are issued 8-11am and 2-4pm M-F. In order to obtain a key one will need to complete a key checkout form which requires a signature by the PI/Faculty member or your Supervisor. The form can be found in room 1005 located on the Terasaki loading dock. Once filled out and signed the person can bring the from to 1005. The PI/Faculty member/Supervisor must make sure the user returns the key(s) when they are no longer needed. Keys must be returned to room 1005. Please do not tranfer keys to another person. There is a $20.00 charge per lost key.
Terasaki Building
To obtain access to the Terasaki Building after hours, on holidays/weekends the PI or Supervisor must request access by emailing Nelvi Sandoval (nsandoval@lifesci.ucla.edu) and Humberto Barba (hbarba@lifesci.ucla.edu). The PI/Supervisor must provide the full name with an access end-date. If an end-date is not desired please state“no end date”. Once this is done the person seeking access must bring their Bruincard to room 1005 located on the Terasaki Loading dock between 8-11am and 2-4pm M-F.
Access to Plant Growth Center, La Kretz Botany Building & La Kretz Garden Pavilon
To obtain access to the Plant Growth Center, La Kretz Botany Building and La Kretz Garden Pavilon the PI/Faculty member/Supervisor must email Nelvi Sandoval (nsandoval@lifesci.ucla.edu) and Humberto Barba (hbarba@lifesci.ucla.edu) with the name and university ID number of each person needing access. For interior rooms within Botany please tell us the floor they’ll need access to and if they also need lab access. For PGC, please copy the individual(s) who require access so we can email them instructions. There is no need to visit the loading dock office for these access requests; Nelvi or Humberto will process the requests remotely.
Copying
Copiers are available in the Terasaki Life Sciences Building and in Hershey Hall. These copiers can be used for instructional copying. Staff can also access these machines if needed. Access must be granted and a unique code is assigned to each user. To obtain access email your request to Life Scineces Computing Helpdesk at support@lifesci.ucla.edu. Provide your name, University ID# and department.
Custodial Services
Custodians provide the basic services. This service is provided only in rooms where they have keyed access. They do not provide custodial services to offices or labs that are keyed off the building master. For more information see their service guide found here: Custodial Service Guide FY24-25
Drosophila Media Facility

Mail/Mailboxes
Mail is received and distributed in TLSB 1016 and Hershey 251.
Plant Growth Center
The Plant Growth Center (PGC) is a state-of-the-art greenhouse center, which has 6 research greenhouses and 1 educational greenhouse. The PGC also houses 12 plant growth chambers located in the basement of the building.

Entry to the PGC requires faculty authorization and only persons growing plants in the greenhouses or chambers are authorized to enter. A UCLA Bruin Card is required to access the facility. See the building access section for more information.
Electronics Shop
The Life Science Electronics Shop can help with diagnostics of most lab equipment such as centrifuges, peristaltic pumps, mechanical microscope problems, light sources, camera equipment, pipettes, repair of most gel apparatus, water baths, shakers and rotators. Just about any piece of electronic equipment can be checked for malfunctions.

Receiving and Delivery
Most items are delivered to the Terasaki loading dock. The address is 610 Charles E. Young Drive South, Los Angeles, CA 90095. Large items should be delieverd directly to the building.
